G. Bar to head north
Don't stress out, Ybor Club Kids. Tampa's G. Bar isn't going anywhereâ┚¬â€Âbut it will soon have a sister bar in the heart of Atlanta, Ga. later this year. In a release from owners Steve Donahue and Steve Moss, it was announced that a new G. Bar would open its doors sometime this year. Donahue told Watermark in the past that he and his partners were constantly looking at other cities to host a nightclub as successful as his othersâ┚¬â€Âincluding Honey Pot, G. Bar and the Ybor Eagle/Social Club. Now it looks like the Florida Entertainment Group has settled on the hometown of the Designing Women. Tampa Gala breaks records
Financial details weren't available at press time but the attendance numbers were definitely impressive at the 2011 Equality Florida Tampa gala on Saturday, Feb. 26. More than 350 people attended the fundraiser at the Tampa Garden Club that honored Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor as a â┚¬Å”Voice for Equality.â┚¬Â The total amount raised at the gala was scheduled to be released sometime March 2.
Million Hugs has almost as many tour stops
What started as research for a novel has turned into a book teaching new performers how to start the art of performing as female impersonatorsâ┚¬â€Âand achieving success. Now, Million Hugs: The Official Drag Handbook, authored by Tampa's own Todd Kachinski-Kottmeier is launching a national book signing tour that starts right here in Tampa Bay. Thousands of entertainers contributed details of their art to the book that is already breaking pre-sale records, according to the book's senior editor. The author and several of the performers featured in the book will be on hand for the first official stop of the tour at the Flamingo Resort in St. Pete March 3, Manilow's in New Port Richey on March 10, The Honey Pot in Ybor City March 11, the Parliament House in Orlando March 13 and Chelsea Nightclub in Tampa March 17.
