Monday Ripples: Learning from Jane and Abe

Monday Ripples: Learning from Jane and Abe

â┚¬Å”Until you have done something for humanity, you should be ashamed to die.â┚¬Â â┚¬â€œ Horace Mann

Before we get started today, I'm going to ask you to do something. Take out a pen and draw a heart on your wrist.

110425-105716_2All done?* Good job. First, let me say it's scary that you would just do what I tell you like that, but I kind of dig it too. You're now participating in Free Love Day, â┚¬Å”a day to promote awareness of suicide and depression, as well as to advocate a LIFESTYLE of unconditional loveâ┚¬Â started by Justin Murray who lost his high school crush to suicide. It's happening â┚¬Å”Everywhere, around the worldâ┚¬Â so I thought you might want to take part.

Feels good, doesn't it? Such an easy thing to do, such a powerful statement to make. Thanks, Justin.

I'm going to keep it short and just give you a couple of Ripples today, but I hope you find they get your wheels turning and your heart opening.

She…Jane

The books of Patrick McDonnell
You probably know author Patrick McDonnell from his popular comic MUTTS, but he is also a writer of children's book. His most recent offering is a picture book called Me…Jane about one of the coolest people to walk the planet, Jane Goodall. It turns out that Jane showed signs at a very young age of being the inquisitive do-gooder we know her to be. On this link there's a brief interview with Patrick that's well worth reading. To find out more about Jane and her significant work visit the Jane Goodall Institute.

Ready, Willing, and Abe
Abraham Lincoln's Top 10 Fundamentals for Creating a Kick-Ass Life
I imagine the debate about Abe Lincoln's sexuality will ever be settled. For me there is enough evidence to show that if he didn't go there â┚¬â€œ or go down there, if you will â┚¬â€œ he certainly wasn't afraid to express affection for other men. At any rate, I love this piece; Henrik Edberg uses Lincoln's philosophies and life to illustrate how you can make your life the best life possible.

If you're not my fan on Facebook, but you're missing part of the fun! I post miscellaneous links when it tickles my fancy and I post additional pictures from my adventures. So go to Scottie Saves the World and “like” me right this second. My apologies for being so bossy today, but sometimes I need to put you in your place.

*Please note my unusual restraint in deference to the subject at hand not to use this tasteless, but tempting joke: Got your heart on? You’re welcome.
