Stained Glass Windows

Stained Glass Windows

Steve Sherman’s Stained Glass Windows explores the fear and anxiety of a gay college student, David, as he prepares to come out to his family. The two-act play first addresses David’s relationship with his sister, Claire, then delves into the all-too-familiar “What ifs?” of revealing his sexual orientation to his parents, Susan and Paul. Sherman highlights elements of this soul-baring process that are probably old news to anyone who has already faced the specter of coming out or is living in a carefully constructed closet, but may be surprising to the parents, siblings, friends and allies of LGBTs, particularly the endless-and inevitably devastating-scenarios we play in our heads in anticipation of our family’s reaction to the simple truth: “I’m gay.”
