Watermark’s 2014 Orlando Fringe Reviews: Smooch

Who wrote the book of love? Well according to the PB&J Theater Factory, it was four out of five cupids that helped!

This comedic family-friendly show, loaded with audience participation, starts with four diapered cupids showing their fifth companion the needed skills to do their job correctly. We’re introduced to a new couple and with all their abilities these adorable winged group, like puppeteers start to bring them together – but due to his inability to understand how to make it work, the fifth cupid ends up messing things up!

The cupids proceed to take their friend through a journey of the various stages of love, all expertly performed without a single word: puppy love, dating, marriage and finally the golden years. Unfortunately, when things seem to be going as they should, our fifth cupid intervenes and ruins it all. With some creative measures, cupids one through four end up cleaning his mess and making things right.

At the end, we’re taken back to our original couple – after the unfortunate errors of our little friend, the couple doesn’t seem to be too happy with one another. But after his lessons, it’s up to him to correct things. Did he actually learn anything through his journey? You’ll have to see the show to find out.
