Project DTO hosted Midday Mingle at the Wall Street Plaza June 25, allowing residents who live, work or play in Downtown Orlando to be a part of the planning process of expanding the area.
Nine interactive stations lined Wall Street, each station represented an area the Executive Advisory Committee, Task Force and City Staff hope to focus on in order to create a “community-guided vision and strategic plan for Downtown Orlando,” as their website says, to help redevelop the area, bring a brand platform and marketing strategy for Downtown and building upon the community’s needs and interests for the future.
The stations and areas of focus, which are committees within the Task Force, for improving the brand and Downtown area included:
- Arts and Culture, chaired by Jennifer Quigley
- Downtown Identity, chaired by Amanda Day
- Economic Competitiveness, chaired by John Burden
- Access, chaired by Shelley Lauten
- Sustainability, chaired by Maylen Dominguez
- Urban Amenities and Open Space, chaired by Allyson Myers
- Urban Lifestyle and Tourism, chaired by John Crossman
- Social Fabric, chaired by Dr. David Swanson
- Neighborhoods and Historic Preservation, chaired by Terry Delahunty
The Project DTO Task Force, which is comprised of more than 70 Downtown stakeholders appointed by Orlando City Mayor Buddy Dyer, help provide guidance for the different committees they’re a part of. Metropolitan Business Association Orlando’s Mikael Audebert is one of the many appointed members that will help contribute to the Task Force.
The event provided networking for Downtown businesses, brainstorming with Downtown residents with the different Task Force committees and even free “DTO Love” T-shirts. Project DTO hopes to use the feedback it received at Midday Mingle to achieve the envisioned Downtown, hoping to advance it into the future.
