EFLAND, N.C. (AP) — A teacher and an assistant principal at an Orange County elementary school have resigned after controversy developed because of the reading of a gay story to third grade students.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that schools spokesman Seth Stephens said June 15 that teacher Omar Currie and assistant principal Meg Goodhand had submitted their resignations.
The newspaper reported that Currie had said he would resign because he felt administrators did not support him after he read “King & King,” a story of two princes who fall in love and get married.
Currie said he read the book after a boy in his class was called gay in a derogatory way and was told he was acting like a girl.
Goodhand would not talk about the situation.
