Tampa – Transgender activist Ashley Brundage received a commendation from the Tampa City Council at City Hall Dec. 17.
The Tampa City Council unanimously voted to award Brundage the commendation Nov. 19. The motion was made by Councilman Guido Maniscalco of District 6 and seconded by Councilwoman Lisa J. Montelione of District 7.
The city recognized Brundagefor her work with the Tampa Bay LGBT community and her recent PNC Performance Award.
The PNC Performance Award recognizes PNC employees who demonstrate a pattern of significant achievement both personally and professionally. For 2015, there were over 700 nominees and only one chosen from Florida.
“It is with great pleasure and gratitude that I accept this commendation. Thank you for recognizing my work at PNC Bank and in the community,” Brundage said in her prepared remarks. “We are here today to celebrate the continued recognition of diversity and equality in the City of Tampa. In the past few years, the city has seen a significant score increase on the Human Rights Campaign Municipality Index, which evaluates cities based on their LGBT inclusion for the citizens. I am personally extremely proud to be living and working in a city that is committed to equality for all citizens, and fighting to show the value of inclusion for everyone.”
Brundge is also the president of the Tampa Bay Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and on the board of directors for the TampaBay International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.
