Orlando City Soccer pays tribute to shooting victims

The Orlando City Soccer Club paid a moving tribute to the victims of the Pulse shooting at their home game against the San Jose Earthquakes June 18.

Scores of the 37,194 in attendance that night waved rainbow flags and wore “#OneOrlando” shirts to show their solidarity with those killed the morning of June 12. Forty-nine seats were sectioned off and had multicolored balloons tied to them to form a rainbow pattern. Orlando City players wore rainbow-colored wristbands and “#OneOrlando” patches on their jerseys.

The game was stopped completely for a moment of silence during the 49th minute in remembrance of the 49 people who were murdered at Pulse.

Although Orlando City held a 2-1 lead late in the game, San Jose scored in the last minute of stoppage time to force a 2-2 draw.

The team continues to raise money for the victims through the online sale of “#OneOrlando” T-shirts and posters. Additionally, the jerseys worn by Orlando City players during the game are up for auction online. The auctions end July 6.
