“Avengers: Endgame” is already breaking box office records but it’s also taken a step toward more LGBTQ inclusion.
In the scene an unnamed man, played by co-director Joe Russo, is seen in a support group for people whose loved ones were lost to Thanos at the end of “Avengers: Infinity War.”
The man describes going on a first date with another man where they both start crying over their lost loved ones before the salad.
It’s a small moment but one Russo and his brother, co-director Anthony Russo, wanted to add.
“Representation is really important,” Joe told Deadline. “It was important to us as we did four of these films, we wanted a gay character somewhere in them. We felt it was important that one of us play him, to ensure the integrity and show it is so important to the filmmakers that one of us is representing that.”
Marvel is also reportedly looking for a gay male Asian lead for its upcoming film “The Eternals.” Out actor and “How to Get Away with Murder” star Conrad Ricamora is rumored to be a frontrunner for the role.
