ORLANDO | The Dru Project announced its three Spirit of Drew scholarship recipients in a Facebook post June 9.
Arlin Pedregon, attending the University of New Mexico; Cole Foust, attending the University of South Florida; and Christopher Zoeller, attending the University of Central Florida.
“These three students are leaders in their communities who are working day-in and day-out to make the world a better place for their LGBTQ+ peers,” The Dru Project posted. “We are so proud of you and have a special video that we’re dropping on Friday to help remember Pulse and congratulate our scholars.”
The Dru Project was formed by friends of Drew Leinonen, one of the 49 victims of the Pulse tragedy in June 2016, to honor his memory with philanthropic work.
“The Dru Project is an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization on a mission to spread love across the nation and promote gay straight alliances,” the organization’s website states. “We are doing this by creating a curriculum for high school GSAs to use, should they wish to adopt our program. We are also offering scholarships to students who truly exemplify Drew’s spirit for inclusion and unity.”
