2021 Orlando Fringe Review: ‘Fucking Men’

“Fucking Men” is a collection of interconnected scenes about 10 gay men and how they are all linked to one another through sexual experiences.

“Fucking Men” was written by playwright Joe DiPietro, best known for his musicals “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” and “Memphis,” and is an adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s 19th Century play “La Ronde.”

The show starts off with Steve (William Allred), an Army soldier, in Central Park looking to pay John (Leroy Aponte), an escort, for oral sex. In the next scene we follow Steve to a gym where he has sex with grad student Marco (Jesse Thomas Foster) in the sauna. The audience makes their way through 10 scenes, each one featuring the character introduced in the scene before. Through the course of the play, we meet college student Kyle (Niko Felizzola), married couple Leo (Scott Browning) and Jack (Roy Hamlin), porn star Ryan (Coletyn P. Hentz), playwright Sammy (Chris Eastwood), movie star Brandon (Bjorn Backman) and TV journalist Donald (Robert Crane).

“Fucking Men” is blunt, honest and real as it explores sex among men from monogamy and open relationships to one night stands and being in love. Each part is perfectly cast and director Jamie DeHay doesn’t shy away from the subject matter offering plenty of naked bodies and raw emotion.

“Fucking Men” plays in the Gold Venue through May 30. For more information visit OrlandoFringe.org.
