Equality Florida to hold virtual #FreeToSayGay town hall

Equality Florida will hold a virtual town hall March 9 at 6 p.m. in response to the passage of Parental Rights in Education, more widely known as the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The Florida Senate passed Senate Bill 1834 by a vote of 22-17 March 8, following the passage of Florida House Bill 1557 in the House of Representatives Feb. 24. If signed into law, it will limit the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools at certain grade levels.

“After eight weeks of overwhelming public outrage that drew national — and even international — attention, the Florida Legislature has passed the cruel ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill,” Equality Florida shared. “It now heads to the Governor’s desk for signature. The fight to stop this bill is not over.”

The organization will speak with student organizers, pro-equality lawmakers and LGBTQ advocates throughout the state, broadcast via social media. Supporters are encouraged to RSVP here to watch on Equality Florida’s Facebook page, YouTube channel or website.

The organization noted that “we’ll also discuss what’s next as we continue to fight back against anti-LGBTQ hatred and bigotry.” Read more below:
