ORLANDO | The Central Florida Community Arts community choir presents “Once Upon a Dream: 100 Years of Musical Magic,” an immersive musical revue that celebrates the last century of Disney movies, magic and music at Northland Church in Longwood May 4-5.
The concert features 300 performers coming together to help put on a show that includes singing, storytelling and “magical” effects.
“This isn’t a standard choir concert, but rather a fully produced, multimedia, theatrical experience that features the CFCArts choir and orchestra,” Brandon Fender, CFCArts Community Choir and founding member, said in a press release.
The concert is a nostalgia-packed, awe-filled experience that Fender calls a “collective celebration of members’ dreams and memories from over 300 artists taking the stage this spring,” featuring music from the early animated days of the 1920s to the animated renaissance of the 1990s, the recent smash hits of the last 20 years, and even a celebration of spectacular live entertainment from Disney Parks and destinations.
“I have such wonderful memories of growing up and going to the movie theater and seeing my favorite hero or princess in action on the big screen,” Fender said. “Having the ability to experience those movies come to life in my backyard at the Disney Parks was life-changing and set a trajectory for my career to come. As a kid, I would lock myself away for hours, putting on cassette tapes and putting on shows for myself in my bedroom. Thirty years later, I’m still putting on shows, but the experience looks a bit different.”
Many choir and staff members previously worked or currently work as a Disney cast member, or have a deep connection to Disney from their childhood, letting the performers and crew share their feelings of nostalgia and childlike wonder with the audience.
“Once Upon a Dream: 100 Years of Musical Magic” will be at the Northland Church in Longwood May 4-5, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $10 with special rates available for groups of eight or more. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit CFCArts.com/Dream.
