ST. PETERSBURG | St. Petersburg’s American Stage announced its new managing director, Anthony Winter-Brown, April 10.
Winter-Brown worked as Director of Visitor Experience at Royal Albert Hall in the U.K. for 18 years. Now, he’s returning home to his Florida roots.
American Stage’s previous managing director, CJ Zygadlo left of his own accord earlier this year. Winter-Brown jumped at the chance to take over for Zygadlo.
“I have always loved live theater ever since I was a teenager, so fate and seizing the moment definitely played a part,” Winter-Brown said, in a press statement. “ I successfully got the role and have never looked back since.”
Like American Stage, Royal Albert Hall is also a nonprofit performing arts organization. Winter-Brown found his passion while working at Royal Albert Hall and is eager to continue doing similar work.
“I am really excited to continue working for a nonprofit performing arts organization, and in particular, American Stage. I hope to bring my experience of working with a similar funding model in the UK and ensure American Stage has the financial longevity to continue positively representing and impacting our local community and beyond,” Winter-Brown said.
Winter-Brown will begin his role at American Stage during its production of “Ragtime – the Musical.” The musical will be held outdoors at Demens Landing Park.
“Anthony is already keeping a watchful eye on the finances and assessing thoughtful ways to keep American Stage stable and growing,” Helen R. Murray, American Stage Producing Artistic Director, said, in a press statement. “His organizational input will help me, and our staff, create a space and a company that is welcoming to artists and audiences, and is able to celebrate their work, and our community, in meaningful ways.”
American Stage Theatre has provided live theatrical productions as a professional regional equity theatre since 1977. As Tampa Bay’s longest-running professional theatre company, its vision is to be a vital arts leader, connecting its community to world-class productions that celebrate the most powerful stories of the moment and the most defining stories from our past.
“Ragtime The Musical” begins today and runs through May 14. Tickets are available on American Stage’s website.
