The North Face clothing company released an advertisement featuring drag queen Pattie Gonia highlighting the company’s Pride collection and upcoming Summer of Pride Tour – and Twitter is not happy about it.
Director Robby Starbuck posted a tweet regarding the ad and encouraged people to boycott The North Face as well as the other companies that are owned by the same corporation as the clothing company.
Despite the lack of any mention of opposing views in this ad, Starbuck claims that The North Face is “screaming at you to not buy their products if this violates your values.”
Can anyone explain how the heck this ad helps @thenorthface sell outdoor clothes? They’re screaming at you to not buy their products if this violates your values. Accept their challenge. The North Face released a similar ad in 2022 also featuring Gonia to promote the same Summer of Pride event.
One Twitter user responded to this ad with a request for a more balanced representation of the LGBTQ+ community.
“Please stop presenting gay people as grotesque stereotypes, the tweet read. “Why not show normal, everyday gay and lesbian people hiking instead of this tripe.”
Those who are offended by this ad are also claiming that it is partially targeted toward children since The North Face sells clothes for children.
Slogans such as “Go woke, go broke” are circulating on Twitter as people weigh in on the advertisement.
