ORLANDO | Brandon Wolf will bring the release party for his memoir “A Place for Us” home to Orlando for a book signing Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. at College Park Gallery.
An LGBTQ+ rights and gun reform activist, Wolf released “A Place For Us” on July 1. Since then he has been on a circuit talking about the people that inspired the memoir and the effects of his experience at Pulse.
An Orlando native, Wolf has become a prominent activist since the tragedy at Pulse seven years ago. He created The Dru Project in the aftermath of the events to remember his late friend Christopher Andrew Leinonen and to empower LGBTQ+ youth to be successful leaders. Since its creation, The Dru Project has awarded $150,000 in college scholarships and $15,000 in mini-grants for gay-straight alliances and out-of-work drag entertainers.
Wolf has also been a partner to many other organizations, including March For Our Lives, Everytown and Giffords. He was also the first survivor of the Pulse Nightclub to testify in front of Congress and currently serves as press secretary for Equality Florida.
With “A Place For Us,” Wolf tackles many different subjects, from his experience growing up Black and queer in America, the struggles he went through after the loss of his mother and the aftermath of Pulse.”When I set out to capture my journey in the pages of a book, I had no idea what form it would take,” his website reads.
The “A Place For Us” release party will come to College Park Gallery August 7, located at 2300 Edgewater Drive in Orlando. Tickets are available for $10 and include a signed edition of the book. Read more:
