ORLANDO | The Dru Project is hosting a virtual discussion on race and sexuality, featuring the organization’s Vice President Brandon Wolf and YouTube star Kingsley, on June 10.
“Black Lives Matter: A Discussion on Being Queer and Black in America Today,” which will stream live on The Dru Project’s Facebook page, will be “open and honest conversations about race and sexuality” with the hope “that we can come to a greater understanding together and move forward in a way that benefits all of our disenfranchised communities,” the event page states.
Wolf discussed what viewers can expect from the hour-long discussion ahead of the event in a video message released on Facebook on June 4.
“We’re gonna talk about things that might be comfortable, might be uncomfortable,” Wolf said. “We’re gonna talk about what it means to be queer and black in America today. And we’re gonna talk about why the LGBTQ community has such an important role in this fight right now.”
The event comes as protests in all 50 states and in multiple countries around the world continue in response to the murder of George Floyd at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers.
“The Dru Project launched with its sights on a world that Drew [Leinonen] would have been proud to live in. A world where every single person is treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve,” Wolf said in the video. “You don’t have to look far to see that that is not yet the world we live in.”
