The all-girl superhero group The Powerpuff Girls are using their powers to educate kids on transgender issues.
In the new episode “Horn, Sweet Horn,” the girls meet a pony named Donny who wants nothing more than to be a unicorn.
“He has to go through a transformation to become a unicorn,” Executive Producer Nick Jennings said. “So it’s a whole [episode that asks], ‘What are you on the inside? What are you on the outside? How do you identify yourself? How do people see you?’ There’s a lot of subtext in that.”
The episode ends with Donny realizing he has always been a unicorn, the final image being a heart on the screen in the transgender flag’s pink, white and light blue.
