It’s official!
After meeting with the St. Petersburg Fire Department on Monday, Aug. 24, the Flamingo Resort finally got official approval to open its doors to the public on Friday, Aug. 28.
“At first when we met with them they wanted us to install a sprinkler system throughout the building that will cost a fortune and would have taken more than a month to get in,” resort director David Baker said. “But they’ve agreed to work with us and have given us a time frame to get that installed. So we’re opening the doors to the public for our grand opening this weekend.”
The resort will officially open at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24 but the festivities won’t begin until later that evening, when Jazz musician Alan Darcy performs life and members of the resort’s show cast mingle with guests. The Florida Mavericks dance team is also scheduled to perform around 10 p.m. that evening.
“On Saturday we’ll have our first pool party with DJ O and that night will be the first full-fledged production with all of the girls in costume,” Baker said. “Sunday will be our T-dance and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are going to hold our ribbon cutting at 3 p.m.”
Baker said resort hostess Alexis De La Mar will also be on hand to conduct contests in the courtyard and offer giveaways.
“I’m excited and it was touch and go there for awhile,” Baker said. “But we will get our liquor in on Thursday and we’ll be read for the community on Friday. We’ve also had several rooms booked for this weekend, so it’ll be a great time.”
