Gay bash arrest in north Florida

A Trenton man is charged with a hate crime and aggravated battery in the beating of a 31-year-old man after his sexual orientation came into question at a bar in Newberry, Fla. Police arrested William Dennis Bracewell at his construction job in Gainesville. He posted $50,000 bond.

According to a police report, two men punched the victim in the face and broke a beer bottle over his head while calling him “faggot” and other derogatory names on Sept. 3. Police say that the men kicked the victim once while he was on the ground and unresponsive and that the attack was unprovoked. The unidentified victim was taken to the hospital for stitches and treatment for his injuries.

Police say they had enough evidence to arrest Bracewell and located him about a month after the crime took place.
The other unidentified attacker could still face charges.
