Scooters 4 Hooters raises $119,000

Scooters 4 Hooters has come a long way in the past five years. The first benefit for Libby's Legacy, a foundation providing breast health care to Central Florida, had a fundraising goal of $5,000, and raised $15,000. The 2011 event goal was $100,000, and the April 16 event has brought in $119,422 with funds still coming in.

Scooters4HootersRobin Maynard is the founder of both the event and its foundation, in honor of her mother Libby Maynard, who passed away in 2006. She said this year's event featured 255 scooters, more than 400 riders and more survivors than ever before.

â┚¬Å”Central Florida's first ever digital mobile mammography unit led the ride this year,â┚¬Â she said. â┚¬Å”[Scooters 4 Hooters] is a story of hope and strength and courage; we gave away more than 650 breast health services last year. That's huge.â┚¬Â

The event has outgrown its original Wall Street location and was held at Lake Eola for the first time this year. Maynard said the silent auction alone raised more than $10,000 and more vendors and businesses participated than ever before.

Libby's Legacy also helps stage IV breast cancer patients via their LIVE BIG program, which grants wishes to create memories with loved ones.
