WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton will launch her long-awaited 2016 presidential campaign on April 12.
That’s according to people familiar with Clinton’s plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss them publicly.
The former secretary of state is making her second presidential bid, entering the race in a strong position to succeed President Barack Obama as the
nominee of the Democratic Party.
Clinton publicly came out in support of gay marriage in 2013 in a video released by Human Rights Campaign.
“LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our teachers, our soldiers, our friends and our loved ones, and they are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage,” she says in the video. “That’s why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples. I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law.”
If elected, the former first lady would be the nation’s first female president.
