Faux queen Sonique rocks the stage at VMAs

Parliament House Orlando’s very own faux queen* Sonique shared the stage with Miley Cyrus for the closing of what will be remembered as a very gay year for the VMAs. Cyrus, who revealed in a recent issue of Elle U.K. that she was pansexual, ended her hosting gig of the 2015 show with a dynamic performance highlighting LGBT youth and contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race, including Sonique.

“Congrats to our very own Footlight Player, Sonique and all 30 RuPaul’s Drag Race gals on last nights EPIC closing at the VMA’s! You all rocked it!” Parliament House said in a Facebook post.

Cyrus was introduced by the youth featured in her Happy Hippie Foundation’s InstaPride campaign, which encouraged the LGBT community to share their stories on gender identity on Instagram.  After a brief solo, Cyrus strutted the stage alongside droves of drag queens to the tune of her new single, “Dooo It!” Clad in colorful costumes, the stars twerked, death dropped and owned the night.

*Wondering what a faux queen is? According to RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Wiki page, Sonique is a faux queen because she has transitioned to a woman but still performs in the style of a male drag queen.
