“Moonlight” followed Chiron, a young black man in Miami, as he struggles with sexuality, poverty and masculinity through childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders and Trevante Rhodes portrayed Chiron at each stage of his life, respectively.
The film also starred Mahershala Ali, who won Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film, Naomie Harris and Janelle Monáe.
At the Academy Awards in 2017, the film won Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar and became the first LGBTQ-related film to win Best Picture.
