TAMPA | The Straz Center for the Performing Arts announced the cancellation of “A Drag Queen Christmas” Dec. 27, scheduled to perform at the venue that evening.
Presented by Murray & Peter, the holiday-themed tour began in Michigan Nov. 10. Its last performance was in Orlando at the Plaza Live Dec. 26, where “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum performed to a sold-out crowd.
Video from the Orlando performance can be seen below, via Murray & Peter’s Facebook page:
“Tonight’s performance of the Murray & Peter produced show ‘Drag Queen Christmas’ has been cancelled due to COVID-19,” the Straz shared in a press release Dec. 27. “The Straz Center’s rigorous testing protocols caught positive cases before anyone on the production team entered our facility and prevented any spread of positive cases.
“We wish our friends at ‘Drag Queen Christmas’ all the best and look forward to hosting them again in the future,” the venue added.
Murray & Peter also addressed the news via social media.
“After 35 of 38 cities, COVID-19 has touched our team,” they shared. “Out of an abundance of caution and for the wellness of everyone on the tour, we have decided to cancel the last 3 cities. Thank you to all the fans who made this tour our biggest success to date.”
The cancellations include Florida’s Tampa and Fort Lauderdale as well as a Dec. 29 performance in Savannah, Georgia.
