Billy Porter’s directorial debut “Anything’s Possible” premiered on July 14 at the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival, located at The Orpheum Theatre.

“Anything’s Possible” is a Gen Z coming-of-age story about a transgender high school senior named Kelsa. She begins a budding romance with classmate Khal, despite potential drama and judgement from other students. This film is a romance that showcases the joy, tenderness, and pain of a young love, heightened with the nerves of being judged for being in an LGBTQ relationship.

Porter is a multifaceted LGBTQ icon, performing both on stage and in front of the cameras since the 90s. He is well known for his jaw-dropping fashion choices, often featuring gender-neutral looks with bright pops of color and futuristic motifs. “Anything’s Possible” will allow Porter to add the title of director to his already miles-long resume.

Porter’s directorial debut is written by Ximena Garcia Lecuona. The film stars Eva Reign, Abubakr Ali, and Renee Elise Goldsberry. The film will launch to the public July 22, exclusively on Prime Video.

Lecouna said her inspiration behind the film came from a Reddit post she saw about a young person saying he had a crush on a transgender girl in his school, but was worried about being insensitive to the girl or judged by other students.

“The Internet responded with, ‘Don’t be stupid. Ask her out.’ Obviously like, ‘Who cares?’ Very short post, but that inspired me immediately,” Lecouna said. “Being at that point in my life, I was desperately looking for stories where trans people were loved, were happy, successful in life, and satisfied.”

The Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival showcased “Anything’s Possible” as the opening night feature for the festival, complete with the full cast donning elaborate formalwear and walking the red carpet.

Outfest is an arts, media and entertainment organization that focuses on the LGBTQ community in order to increase diversity and visibility for the entertainment industry and its audiences. This year’s festival is Outfest’s 40th year of telling vibrant stories about the lives of LGBTQ individuals.
