The Center Orlando, Florida Health to provide free meningitis vaccines at Savoy

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center Orlando, in partnership with the Florida Department of Health, will be offering free meningococcal vaccines at Savoy in Orlando Aug. 6 from 2-5 p.m.

Health officials have been recommending that men in Florida who have sex with other men get a meningococcal vaccine following one of the worst outbreaks among gay and bisexual men in U.S. history of a bacteria that causes meningitis.

Meningococcal disease is caused by a bacteria, and when the linings of the brain and spinal cord become infected, it is called meningitis.

Symptoms include a sudden, high fever; headache; stiff neck; nausea or vomiting; or a dark purple rash, according to health officials.

Individuals who wish to get the vaccine at Saturday’s Savoy event are asked to RSVP at tinyurl.com/mujzdxx2. Participants will also event receive a free drink ticket as well as some freebies provided by The Center Orlando and the Department of Health.
