Drag entertainer Lacie Browning returns for American Lung Association’s ‘Lip Sync For Lungs V’

ORLANDO | The American Lung Association is taking over Sak Comedy Lab in Orlando Nov. 10 for its fifth installment of Lip Sync For Lungs Live Battle.

The event, presented by AdventHealth, will pit five local community leaders against each other in a lip-sync battle to help raise funds to support the American Lung Association’s overall mission to conduct groundbreaking lung disease research and provide lung education programs in Florida.

This year’s Battle Contestants consist of Chelsea Ryckis, COO of Partner Ethos Benefits; Stephanie Alcalde, attorney and owner of Alcalde Legal; Steve Gunter, owner of The Tap Room at Dubsdread; Cece Teneal, Central Florida-based entertainer; and Dr. Rick Ramnath, co-owner of Neuroskeletal Imaging.

After performing in last year’s Lip Sync For Lungs competition, Bruce Nordaby — better known as WAVE Award-winning drag sensation Lacy Browning — returns to emcee the event alongside Central Florida attorney Jessica Thomas.

“The Lung Association’s Lip Sync for Lungs is one of those events that transforms local professionals like your doctor – someone that you highly regard and puts them in a vulnerable position to perform in front of a live audience, all to help raise funds for something that impacts all of us,” Thomas said in a statement. “Where else can you go on a Thursday night in Orlando and watch someone you truly respect let their hair down and be ridiculously funny? Lip Sync for Lungs is just an incredible event you will not want to miss.”

For Nordaby, the association’s mission to generate greater awareness and provide funding for lung health programs and research within Orlando is very important, having witnessed firsthand the challenges that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, had on their father and family,

“Lung disease, cancers and COVID, things like that, they’re not a straight person disease, they’re not a rich person disease, they’re an everybody disease,” Nordaby says. “It effects everyone.”

This year’s competition will be four local members of the community: realtor Rose Kemp, Specturm News 13’s Asher Wildman, market lender Ted Bogert and Orange County firefighter Jason Wheat.

Lip Sync For Lungs Live Battle V will be at Sak Comedy Lab Nov. 10 with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Guests will have access to the bar, concessions and the silent auction for one hour with the program starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased at LipSynceForLungsOrlando.org.
