ORLANDO | The onePULSE Foundation is proud to host “Zero HIV Stigma Day” July 28 at the Orlando Family Stage, located at 1001 E Princeton Street, in Orlando. This groundbreaking event aims to raise awareness about HIV stigma by fostering empathy and empowering the community, uniting the community to combat the social barriers faced by those living with HIV/AIDS.
The event will commence with a special dinner known as “La Cena” from Aguilar Salud honoring people living with and affected by HIV. The centerpiece of the event is a unique and immersive theater experience that will allow participants to walk in the shoes of someone experiencing HIV stigma. This dynamic and transformative experience will provide a profound understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with HIV. The forum theater experience is brought to you in collaboration with Descolonizarte Teatro.
In addition to the theater experience, “Zero HIV Stigma Day” will feature a lively and engaging panel discussion. Esteemed experts and advocates will come together to discuss effective strategies to combat HIV stigma and support for those affected by the virus. The panel will be moderated by Mike Alonso of Gilead Sciences and guest include nationally recognized activist and executive director of the Sero Project Kamaria Laffrey, CDC ambassador and influencer Andres Vazquez, executive director of QLatinx Gabriella Rodriguez.
In addition, participants will have the opportunity to take part in an interactive quilt-making station presented by QLatinx and Change The Pattern. This activity allows attendees to contribute to the creation of the Central Florida HIV/AIDS Quilt. The quilt is a powerful symbol of remembrance, compassion and solidarity with those who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. By contributing to the quilt, participants will become part of a meaningful and tangible expression of unity within the community.
The dinner will be served at 6 p.m. before the main program commences at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public and free of charge. We encourage everyone to join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking evening dedicated to breaking down HIV stigma.
