Okla. politicos call transgender rival an ‘it’
Backers for anti-gay Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern have called her transgender rival, Brittany Novotny, “a confused ‘it.’” In an email to members of the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee (OCPAC), the group calls Novotny “a confused ‘it’” and suggests she hates God. OCPAC endorses Kern, who is best known for saying LGBTs are “more dangerous to the future of America than the threat of terrorism.”

Inaugural gay rights march in Savannah draws 500

About 500 marchers gathered in Savannah, Ga.,  on Sept. 10 to raise awareness for rights for gay, bisexual and transgender members of the community. The city’s inaugural Queer Power March was also a celebration of a federal court decision earlier in the week condemning the U.S. military’s ban on openly gay service members.

Mass. school official loses job after marrying partner
Christine Judd, an administrator at Cathedral High School, in Springfield, Mass., was given the choice of resigning or getting fired after marrying her female partner last month. Although same-sex marriage is legal in Massachusetts, it is against church policy. Judd worked at the school for 12 years. A spokesman for the Springfield Diocese said Judd resigned, but would not discuss the reasons for her resignation.

Canada upholds gay blood ban
A Canadian judge has upheld the ban on blood donations by gay and bisexual men who have had even a single sexual encounter with a person of the same gender since 1977. An Ontario Superior Court judge reaffirmed the blood ban, which is similar to the ban imposed by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States.

GLAAD angry over 50 Cent tweet
GLAAD went on the defensive when rapper 50 Cent posted what they say is a derogatory tweet on Sept. 11. The performer wrote “Perez Hilton called me a douche bag so I had my homie shoot up a gay wedding.” The tweet was accompanied by a photo of two men in suits running from an angry mob of people. In its own tweet, the organization posted a statement that read, “Tell @50cent to let his fans know that anti-gay violence isn’t something to joke about.” The rapper has since deleted his tweet.
