Stuart Milk addresses Democratic Conference
LGBT activist Stuart Milk was given a prime spot when he spoke at the annual state conference held in Orlando Oct. 9-11. On Oct. 10, Milk took the podium immediately after Senator Bill Nelson and addressed attendees about LGBT issues. Milk said he was received enthusiastically and several people approached him to say they weren’t aware of the issues he presented. Later, during a breakout session Saturday afternoon, he was featured along with openly gay Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner.

Headdress Ball raises $270K

The 2009 Headdress Ball’s nearly 1,000 attendees raised more than $270,000 to benefit Hope & Help, an Orlando organization that provides support for HIV/AIDS patients. Hope & Help board of directors president Thearon Scurlock said their goal for this year was $240,000, and they likely have even more money coming in after a few remaining silent auction items are delivered. “We’re so thankful to the Orlando community for supporting the event and helping us exceed our goal,” he said.

Equality Florida honors Watermark publisher
Watermark publisher Tom Dyer was named the 2009 Voice for Equality Award Winner at Equality Florida’s Greater Orlando Gala. The event was held at CityArts Factory, and the program also included Equality Florida Executive Director Nadine Smith and LGBT Activist Stuart Milk.
