Actor Zachary Quinto Speaks at Obama LGBT rally

Activist Doug Head and the Rainbow Democrats hosted a rally with special guest speaker, actor Zachary Quinto Saturday July 28. Quinto, best known for his role as â┚¬Å”Spockâ┚¬Â in the rebooted Star Trek movies, â┚¬Å”Sylarâ┚¬Â in NBC’s Heroes and most recently in FX’s American Horror Story as one of the haunted abode’s former residents, spoke about his support of President Obama and the President’s continued support of the LGBT Community.

â┚¬Å”Marriage equality is going to be such a crucial part of this election,â┚¬Â Quinto said.

ActorZacharyQuintoSpeaksWhen the Obama LGBT rep asked The Center’s director Randy Stephens and straight ally Margo Dixon to host the event along with Rainbow Democrats, they said they jumped at it. An intimate gathering of local LGBTs and allies gathered at the home of Doug Head.

George Clooney, Beyonce, Ellen DeGeneres, Cher, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts and many other Hollywood power players have publicly thrown their supportâ┚¬â€and LGBT support, no lessâ┚¬â€toward the Obama campaign; a move not unnoticed by President Obama.

“The fight on behalf of the LGBT community is part of a broader fight for all Americans,” said Obama earlier this year after announcing his support for gay marriage.

Quinto made it a point to discuss the importance of speaking out about LGBT rights.

â┚¬Å”Change is only valuable if you see it through,â┚¬Â Quinto said.

He went on to say how grateful he is that as someone in the public eye, he can use his position to stand up and inform. In October of last year, Quinto shared that he is gay.

In addition to being vocal about LGBT rights, Quinto starred and co-produced the independent thriller  Margin Call last year in the wake of the financial crisis and â┚¬Å”Occupy Wall Streetâ┚¬Â campaigns. The film attempts to humanize the authors â┚¬â€ and beneficiaries â┚¬â€ of the 2008 financial crisis.

After his speech, Quinto met with attendees and fans for brief one on ones where he revealed he just finished filming for J.J. Abrams’ sequel to the critically acclaimed box office hit Star Trek and American Horror Story Season 2.
