Party in the Park
If you happened by the east side of Lake Eola Park March 22 and saw some big white tents decked out with crystal chandeliers and a live band, you probably thought to yourself: “That’s gotta be gay.” If so, you were right. John and Carolyn Lord threw a big wedding celebration for their son, Jack, and his husband, Adam Hunter, who were married last year in Maine. Several hundred attended, including both families and many of Jack’s partners and co-workers at the Foley & Lardner law firm. There were lots of LGBT movers and shakers present, too… mostly shaking it on the dance floor.
Miley’s acid trip, without the drugs
On March 24, Miley Cyrus barreled into Orlando with her massively loud and colorful Bangerz tour! With what best could be described as an acid trip without actually dropping the drug, The Amway Center was packed with confused parents in a sea squealing of pre-pubescent teenage girls and boys and some adults donning their best Miley-inspired looks! The creative and chaotic mind of Miley visually fed the crowd images of: a little person dressed as a joint, Furries that were bumping and grinding, Amazonian women twerking, a giant inflatable wolf with lit up eyes , a giant muppet-like puppet chasing Miley around the stage and, finally, Miley flying overhead on a giant hot dog! While it was hard to make out what she was saying/singing over the loud bass, the audience had no issues singing along to all her chart-topping hits. But the tone drastically changed and her actual talent shone when she did a low key intimate an acoustic set of covers from various artists.
Vote for The Center to win $25K and a good scrubbing
Someone thinks the GLBT Community Center deserves a good scrubbing. The nonprofit has been nominated in the “Let’s Bubble” contest, sponsored by Scrubbing Bubbles, an SC Johnson Company. Americans were urged to nominate places that, well, were greasy or dirty. Nine finalists across the country, all worthy nonprofits, were named and the four top vote getters will receive a thorough cleaning and $25,000. Nominees include the Joplin Humane Society, Marker Boys and Girls Club and Latino Hispanic American Community Center. Scrubbing Bubbles encourages web visitors to “help lower America’s grime rate.” Incidentally, if you go to the Scrubbing Bubbles Facebook page, you will see three Scrubby cartoons with rainbow bristles boasting pride in all Olympic athletes.
