Boulder, Colo. (AP) – A group of progressive prosecutors from across the country is moving its conference to Boulder from North Carolina because of the state’s transgender bathroom law.
The Daily Camera reports more than two dozen district attorneys will discuss jail populations, sentencing reform, juvenile justice and other issues during the gathering July 28 and 29.
The group says it decided to relocate after North Carolina passed its law requiring transgender people to use public bathrooms that match the sex on their birth certificates. It chose Boulder for its more progressive stance.
Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett and City Attorney Tom Carr are hosting the conference. It also involves the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys and the Major County Prosecutors Council.
Garnett says the group represents the nation’s most forward-thinking prosecutors and the decision to relocate was obvious.
