New college among most "gay friendly"

New College is the third most “gay friendly” college in the nation, according to a new ranking by Princeton Review.

The arts college ranks behind New York University and Stanford University in California. Rounding out the top five rankings are Swarthmore College and Emerson College—both in Massachusetts.

Designated as the State of Florida’s “Honors College for the Liberal Arts,” New College was founded in 1964 and was immediately known for its innovative curriculum. Today, fewer than 1,000 students are enrolled at any time. The 110 acre waterfront campus is located on Bay Shore Road.

The annual listings were released earlier this month in The Princeton Review’s Best 371 Colleges: 2010 Edition. Schools are ranked in 62 categories, including the “Gay Community Most Accepted” category.
