The Mad Cow Theatre will host a special staged reading of The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later (An Epilogue), and join 100 theatres across the country in a simultaneous presentation. The performance will benefit the Orlando Youth Alliance and it’s happening Oct. 12, on the 11th anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student whose death became central to the fight for gay rights and hate crime laws.
One month after Shepard’s death, members of the Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie to interview residents about the murder. That was the source material for the original The Laramie Project. Now, a decade later, they traveled back to Laramie to take a look at the longer-term impact of Shepard’s death, resulting in Laramie Project: 10 Years Later (An Epilogue).
Katrina Ploof, who directed Mad Cow’s production of The Laramie Project in 2002, is also directing this follow-up performance, which also features several members of the original cast.
Show time is 7 p.m. at Mad Cow Theatre, 105 South Magnolia Avenue. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Mad Cow Box Office at 407-297-8788 or online at MadCowTheatre.com.
