A-Division scrapped in this year?s Hurricane Showdown

The 15th Annual Hurricane Showdown is shaping up to be another hugely successful softball tournament, but not for the A-division. Once again, the South Florida Amateur Athletic Association will host the tournament during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend beginning Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26.

As of press time, 51 teams have registered for the tournament, with 17 of those teams coming from the Tampa Bay and Orlando areas. Due to a lack of interest, there is no A-Division in this year’s tournament.

According to organizers, the tournament will pay strict attention to team ratings this year. Teams may not have a maximum team rating over 170 in the B-division, over 130 in the C-division or over 100 in the D-division. Tournament officials will also adhere to the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance 80/20 rule, meaning teams must consist of at least 80% LGBT players.
