Miami takes Florida Cup?again

For the fourth time in the last six years the Miami Mavericks have won the Florida Cup. Valiant efforts were put forth by all teams, but it was not enough to dethrone the reigning champions.

The annual tennis tournament was held at Hillsborough Community College and Advantage Tampa Bay took second place, South Florida Tennis Club took third place and the Orange Blossom Tennis Association came in fourth place.

“ATB President Darryl Creighton and the entire ATB team put on a terrific event, thinking out every last detail,’” said Jason Holstein, OBTA President. “From the venue to the food to the Saturday night party, everything was fantastic.”

The Florida Cup is a team event where each league puts together a team of its best 16 singles players and eight doubles teams to play three eight-game pro-sets against the other leagues. The league to win the greatest number of matches claims the trophy and the title as Florida’s best GLBT tennis league.

The 2010 Florida Cup is in Miami at the Crandon Park Tennis Center, the home of the Sony-Ericsson Open. The leagues are still working to secure a specific date.

All four leagues are scheduled to participate in the last tournament of the year—the Citrus Classic hosted in Tampa over Thanksgiving weekend.
