The area’s two LGBT softball leagues will host their annual player assessment camps on Sunday, Aug. 8. Any players who are interested in joining a team or are returning to the league after more than two years are required to earn a rating before they can play.
Ratings are based on four skill sets based on the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance’s system.
The Central Florida Softball League in Orlando will hold its “Sunday Funday” beginning at 10 a.m. at Lake Fairview Park, 2200 Lee Rd. Free barbecue will be provided for all participants. For more information on the Central Florida Softball League or for directions to the fields, visit CFSLeague.org.
The Suncoast Softball League in Tampa Bay will hold its assessment day at the Greco Field Softball Complex, 11,000 N. 50th St. Assessment times for Tampa players were not available at press time but will be released online at SuncoastSoftball.org.
Both leagues encourage novice and seasoned players to attend the assessment days. Those who do not have a team affiliation will be placed on teams based on the league’s needs. A-, B-, C-, and D-division rankings will be determined based on a player’s ability in the field and in the batter’s box.
