Mayor Buddy Dyer announces run for fifth term

ORLANDO – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer gave his State of the City Address at the new Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center April 29 and announced he is running for a fifth term.

“Thank you Mayor Dyer for your support of inclusion, marriage equality and for mentioning the bullying initiative that Zebra Coalition partners with the city on,” wrote Dexter Foxworth, director of the Zebra Coalition, on his Facebook page after Dyer delivered his speech.

This past January, Dyer presided over Vowed and Proud, one of the first same-sex marriage ceremonies in Florida.

While celebrating the accomplishments of his administration, he also looked to the future of the city.

“But just imagine where we’ll be next year, or ten years from now as we shape our city for generations ahead. I feel like my journey here is not done yet. There’s so much more we can accomplish together, but I can promise you this, my passion for Orlando is larger today than it’s ever been and it’s for that reason that I’ll be running for another term as your mayor,” said Dyer.
