ST. PETERSBURG | Landmarks throughout the city participated in “Light Up with Pride” June 1, proudly illuminating with rainbow colors to show their support for the LGBTQ community.
The initiative was spearheaded by LGBTQ Liaison Jim Nixon following the cancellation of St Pete Pride’s in-person festivities this year. “There is no city better to show our Pride than in St. Pete,” he shared.
Participants are encouraged to maintain their displays throughout Pride Month, which was formally recognized in St. Petersburg earlier that day. Mayor Rick Kriseman, Congressman Charlie Crist, representatives from St Pete Pride and more to raise the Pride flag at City Hall.

“I am immensely proud of the community we live in and ‘Light Up with Pride’ goes beyond just pride,” Nixon says. “It is our commitment to celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion even in the face of a global pandemic that shows who we are.
“I hope the celebration continues,” he added. “I know St Pete continues to be a light in the darkness for many.”
