ORLANDO | Hamburger Mary’s in Orlando announced on its Facebook page June 24 that it would be closing temporarily after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
“The staff member is doing well and has very light symptoms of the virus. They are not in a customer contact position at Mary’s,” the popular downtown eatery wrote on Facebook.
The post states that Mary’s will remain closed through June 29 as owners work to have the entire staff tested and the restaurant cleaned and sanitized. Patrons who had reservations for one of Mary’s weekend shows will be contacted by the restaurant to reschedule.
“We apologize for the inconvenience but we hope you understand under the circumstances,” the Mary’s owners wrote. “We look forward to welcoming you back to Mary’s as soon as possible.”
Most online commenters praised Mary’s owners for their transparency and offered words of encouragement and assurances that they would visit the restaurant once it re-opens.
Some commented wanting to know when the employee who tested positive last worked and wanting to know when the person worked in the last two weeks. Mary’s responded to several comments reiterating that the individual did not work in a “customer contact area” and verified the person was not working on specified days indicated in some of the comments.
“Please stay safe. Please wear a mask. From a business owner’s perspective, it’s really hard to see the light at the end of this tunnel,” Mary’s owners wrote at the end of their post. “We have been kicked, bruised and kicked again, but we are strong. We will get through this.”
