President Trump on Monday was asked by Washington Blade reporter Chris Johnson if he would reconsider his three-year-old policy banning trans people from the military “in any capacity.”

Trump, standing near the roaring engines of Marine One, replied, “I can’t hear you.”

“I can’t hear a word you’re saying,” Trump said when the Blade repeated the question again.

Trump announced the ban on trans people in the military via Tweet in 2017. In the wake of the recent Supreme Court ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County that extends employment non-discrimination protections to LGBTQ workers, many have called on Trump to abandon the policy as contrary to the ruling.

But so far, Trump hasn’t budged.
