ST. PETERSBURG | Metro Inclusive Health will host Rainbow Horizons Oct. 28 from 6-7 p.m., a virtual discussion with other community centers celebrating LGBTQ History Month.
The event will focus on envisioning the future of the LGBTQ community and be led by Metro’s LGBTQ+ Division Manager Cole Foust. He’ll be joined by representatives from the Texas-based Montrose Center, Identity Alaska, the California LGBTQ Health & Human Services Network and the nationally-focused CenterLink: The Community of LGBT Centers.
The live discussion will be streamed via Metro’s Facebook page and subsequently become an episode of the their “To Inclusivity & Beyond” podcast. Rainbow Horizons will celebrate LGBTQ History Month by studying those who have fought for equality and by highlighting the changemakers of today and tomorrow.
“It gives me chills just thinking about the leaders who will be participating and the words that will be spoken at Rainbow Horizons,” Foust says. “When we reflect on LGBTQ+ History, we are inspired by the perseverance, persistence and resiliency that is central to every LGBTQ+ activist’s story. Rainbow Horizons will give us the opportunity to explore how we can channel that momentum into continued action as we dream of a more inclusive future.
“I’m eager to guide this conversation with leaders across the nation—people who are actively reshaping the infrastructures in their communities to be more LGBTQ+ inclusive,” he continues. “LGBTQ+ health centers play an integral part in the lives of LGBTQ+ people, especially those of multiple marginalized identities. By communicating on a united front, we have the power to fight the anti-LGBTQ+ systemic issues that still linger today.”
