Prominent LGBTQ rapper Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” debuted at No. 1 in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” is Nas X’s second No. 1 single. His huge 2019 hit “Old Town Road” became the longest running No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 history at 19 consecutive weeks. The 21-year-old rapper reacted to the news on Twitter.

“Y’all told a 19 year old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again, you told him to stop while he’s ahead,” Lil Nas X wrote. “He could’ve gave up. But four multi platinum songs and two #1’s later, he’s still here.”

Nas X followed up with a more playful tweet, posting a clip from “Spongebob Squarepants” and wrote “me after getting a song about gay sex to the top of the billboard charts.”

Nas X is expected to release a full album this summer. He posted earlier this year “album drop middle of the year.”
