ORLANDO | onePULSE Foundation will host a free virtual screening of three short films highlighting transgender stories Feb. 16.
The event, titled The Transgender Experience, is part of onePULSE’s Conversation Starters, events that showcase films about the LGBTQ community, which itself is a part of the nonprofit organization’s broader Conversation Series.
“The three films allow the audience to see the humanity of trans people,” said Dr. Earl Mowatt, vice president of education for onePULSE Foundation, in a press release. “Whether you are straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary or anywhere in between, this presentation is a great opportunity for you to learn more about a community who is often misunderstood.”
The films will be followed by a panel discussion will facilitated by Mowatt and Nikole Parker, Equality Florida’s director of transgender equality. Panelists will include Angela Denk, a mom of a transgender son and former partner of a transgender woman; Angelica Jones/Sanchez, an LGBTQ advocate, entertainer and Pulse survivor; Brita Jackson, president and owner of Arquette Model Agency; and Jaime Jara, a high school educator and mom of a transgender daughter.
onePULSE Foundation is the official 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated to manage the design and construction of the permanent national memorial and museum dedicated to the PULSE tragedy.
The Transgender Experience, a screening of three short films and panel discussion, will be on Feb. 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. The virtual event is free but you are asked to register for the event by going to onePULSE’s Eventbrite page.
