ORLANDO | Tarot card reader and author James Pierri held a book signing event March 18 at Enchanted Pearls, an LGBTQ-owned psychic gift shop located at 4317 Edgewater Dr. in Orlando.
Pierri was signing copies of “Auset Gypsy Tarot,” his book set that includes a full 78-card tarot deck and guidebook providing readers with spiritual insight.
“The funny thing about [“Auset Gypsy Tarot”] is that it’s a book with no spine, so unfortunately, you shuffle it all up by fate,” Pierri says. “Things lay out the way they’re supposed to. They’re like little windows to help you navigate through life.”
Pierri, who says he loves having events like this so he is able to see people face-to-face, held a presentation, a meet-and-greet and did a few giveaways throughout the afternoon. Along with the book set, special “Auset Gypsy” candles and tarot reading cloths were available for purchase and every customer went home with a free T-shirt.
“There’s a Q&A where you get to ask me anything you want. You finally get to ask the fortune teller anything you’ve ever wanted,” Pierri says.
James Gendron, owner of Enchanted Pearls, says he was connected with Pierri through a mutual friend. Once Gendron opened the store, he says he got in touch with Pierri and started planning a collaboration.
“James told me he was coming down here for a couple of other book signings and other events, and I told him I’d be interested in having him in my shop and getting to know him,” Gendron says. “I’m a very firm believer in helping other people out, letting them grow.”
Enchanted Pearls has been open in Orlando for three months and started with an oyster opening with a natural pearl inside. After a few years of live pearl parties and developing natural psychic abilities, the store was created.
The store offers tarot readings to customers, but Gendron says he’s not just a tarot card reader but also an intuitive psychic reader that uses tarot along with other tools.
“Tarot is a form of divination. It’s a tool, just like crystal balls. It’s the roadmap. So it’s really cool to see the story and how the story is going to go,” Gendron says. “The things I’ve seen and experienced are out of this world.”
Gendron says Enchanted Pearls prides itself on being a safe haven where people in the LGBTQ community can feel welcomed.
“I’m really big on building community and having a safe place for people with like-minded things happening in our life to come and just chat, talk and have a safe event,” Gendron says. “So, it’s not just a shop, it’s a community.”
