Supreme Court intervenes in Washington State marriage case
The Supreme Court is considering whether Washington state officials can release more than 138,500 signatures on Referendum 71, a petition seeking a vote on overturning the state’s domestic partnership rights. Protect Marriage Washington, which unsuccessfully opposed the law giving gay couples expanded rights, wants to shield from disclosure the signers of the petition for a referendum on that law.

Police force first Mr. Gay China pageant to close
Police shut down what would have been China’s first gay pageant an hour before it was set to begin. Organizers said eight police officers turned up at the upscale club in central Beijing where the pageant, featuring a fashion show and a host in drag, was set to take place.

Senate Republicans challenge gay marriage
Eighteen Iowa Senate Republicans introduced a joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment specifying marriage between one man and one woman as the only legal union recognized in the state. Senate Joint Resolution 2001 faces nearly insurmountable odds in being debated during the 2010 session given the steadfast opposition from Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, a Council Bluffs Democrat.
