British YouTuber raises over 200k in gaming stream for trans charity

H.Bomberguy, a UK-based YouTuber, announced in a video Jan. 14 he would be playing “Donkey Kong 64” for charity on the popular streaming platform Twitch.

H.Bomberguy, whose real name is Harry Brewis, chose the charity Mermaids, an organization providing support services for transgender children and teenagers.

The stream ran for 51 hours, from Jan. 18-20, with Brewis only stopping intermittently to sleep.

The initial goal of $5,000 was more than tripled by the stream’s 40th hour; however, Brewis continued to stream until the very end.

Viewers also heard from Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez who called into Brewis’ stream and spoke on discrimination and the importance of equality.

Following the stream, Mermaids took to Twitter to thank Brewis and the viewers for the outpouring of love and support.
