Tampa Bay remembers Pulse at 5-year mark

LGBTQ advocates and allies in Tampa Bay will gather for memorials June 12 to honor those killed at the Pulse nightclub on the tragedy’s five-year mark.

Paddle for Pulse

10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. | 11260 Gulf Blvd., Treasure Island

Project No Labels (PNL) and partner organizations will present a celebration of life to honor those lost. A brief ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. “This is a time to come together as a community and show the world that fear and hate has no place in our hearts,” PNL shares. “We will continue to stand up against it!”

Flowers will be available for all participants to put in the water to pay their respects. Participants are welcome to bring their own flowers but are asked to ensure they are organic and ocean friendly. Donations to onePULSE are encouraged. Learn more here and read more below:

Remembering Pulse: 5 Years Later

5 p.m. | The LGBTQ Resource Center, 501 28th Ave S., Gulfport

The LGBTQ Resource Center at the Gulfport Public Library invites members of the community to gather at the flagpole to honor the 49. A brief service of remembrance will be held. Learn more here.

Pulse Vigil and Bridge Walk

6 p.m. | PrideWalk Rainbow Crosswalk, Cocoanut Ave., Sarasota

Project Pride and the Harvey Milk Festival will remember the 49 at Downtown Sarasota’s PrideWalk Rainbow Crosswalk. Sarasota Mayor Hagen Brody, longtime LGBTQ advovcate Ken Shelin, Rev. Lillie Brock and more community leaders will be speaking. The evening will also feature a name dedication and video presented by Larry Cowden. There will be a bridge walk before the ceremony at 6 p.m. arranged by local organizations as well. Learn more here and read more below:
